Thank you for visiting the LIBA website and your interest in our organization!
You may have seen some recent distortions and false statements about our organization. One false claim is that LIBA wants to oppress LGBTQIA+ rights and this simply is not true. LIBA is an organization that opposes discrimination at all levels.
LIBA did not oppose the Lincoln Fairness Ordinance and LIBA has not lobbied on LGBTQIA+ legislation at the Nebraska Legislature.
LIBA has a long history of supporting all citizens. The thousands of dollars we contribute each year to our scholarship winners are determined by the students’ essays about free enterprise, and our winners have represented all races, genders, economic backgrounds, and any and all walks of life. Our six-member staff includes women in leadership positions. Let us be clear: We oppose discrimination for any reason, including sexual orientation and gender identity.
Our PAC has supported LGBTQIA+ candidates. The PAC has also supported Independents, Libertarians, Republicans and Democrats, including our current Mayor in his 2011 re-election campaign. Our lobbying efforts benefit the citizens in our community – not just businesses – including the prevention of a state “loan tax” that would have taxed business loans, home loans and even student loans.
LIBA supported the last two school bond issues totaling $400 million dollars. We also supported the construction of the Lincoln Public Schools’ Career Academy.
LIBA strongly supports our first responders. For five years, LIBA has led the effort calling for funding more police officers for community safety, and LIBA supported the ¼-cent sales tax to build new fire stations in Lincoln.
We reject anonymous falsehoods, misstatements and outright lies about LIBA’s positions on issues, about our leadership, and our membership, and we hope you will do the same.
